Swelter House is a modular bathing and sauna structure designed to bring the Finnish spa tradition to private residences. Combining balanced architectural details with quality materials, the one-of-a-kind structures may be optimized for every client. Swelter Houses elegantly adapt to personal tastes and natural surroundings to create dream spaces for hosting friends or for solitary reflection.
At the front of our collective inspiration, the 2020 is the prototype Swelter House. It possesses a relatively shallow, 4 to 12 pitch, gable standing seam steel roof and red royal cedar shingles. The structure houses the key elements to accomplish the goals of relaxation, social interaction and healthy routine. Cleft-cut stone and vertical 10 inch wide cedar paneling create the rustic luxury that best embodies the true elements of fire and water. The painted pendant and sconce selection will allow our client to fine tune the decoration. Other variations on the 2020 are available and elements may be exchanged amongst the models. But be advised that the 2020 was the original and therefore the essential Swelter House. A coarsely knurled round knob is the hardware choice and may be provided in either nickel or brass.
Compact and perfect for small spaces, millwork, or for use in multiples, the Pip is a great addition to our ever-growing collection of what we like to call ‘small wall’. See its sister sconce, Scout, for a pretty added detail – a petite reflector.
As shown: hard-wired in polished brass finish. Available as hard or soft-wired.
Commercial Sauna
At the core of the SWELTER HOUSE is the sauna. Our’s is particularly powerful and socially well considered. With an L-shaped seating arrangement the visitors may face one another which is far more convivial than the “staring-at-a-wall” alternative. Equally important is high-low arrangement. As heat rises, the high bench is designed for a more intense experience, while the low allows one to remain amongst their fellows and take a breather.
The proprietary Sauna Heater has been configured to maintain and be adjustable between 150 and 220 degrees and is designed to optimally heat our 400 cubic foot space. By introducing water to the burner element one can increase the humidity and thereby create a more intense experience at any temperature. It’s the basis of the Nordic Cycle and may be used in any sauna of similar size in a new construction project or any existing sauna.
Infra-red heat may be provided in lieu of the traditional electric heater. We can discuss this option further in the components section.
A jetted hot tub, cold plunge pool, and commercial sauna are proprietary and integral to each model. These core features facilitate the intense effects of ultra-high to ultra-low temperature changes often referred to as the “Nordic Cycle.” Healthy and restorative, the practice has been associated with increased longevity and an elevated sense of physical and emotional well-being. Complementing the basis of this Finnish routine, The House also includes a wet-bar, walk-in shower, powder room, wood burning fireplace and a generously sized social lounge. The Swelter House serves as a respite from all that overwhelms the senses.
A high degree of personalization is one of Swelter House’s most attractive aspects. While the floor plan and proprietary components are fixed for design efficiency, the models may be configured with various combinations of windows, roof-pitches, flooring, fixture finishes, roofing and siding materials both inside and out. What’s more, the Houses are equipped with lighting choices, wet bar configurations and door and cabinet hardware programs by an elite alliance of boutique manufacturers creating aspirational custom products. Additional options include one and two bedroom models and even a much smaller version with the same proprietary components for increased accessibility.
